Small Changes, Big Results

I want to talk about a subject that is very close to my heart. I hear my clients tell me "I'm going to have pain for the rest of my life" or "my injuries prevent me from trying this or that" or "my pain-", "my injuries-", "I'm broken!" Thinking this way never gets anyone anywhere. I believe as much as the next person in being realistic, however, maybe instead of thinking about how limited you are, work on correcting little issues.

Small changes add up to big results. When my clients leave my office, I try to make sure they are leaving with tangible information that they can use. The homework I give my clients does not require an hour a day! That's not realistic!! The homework is small and do-able, it takes a level of commitment, but how committed are you to feeling good? How committed are you to getting out of pain and performing well in your workouts, your sport, and your life?

I will leave you with a story of an inspirational man. This gentleman is 89 years old, we will call him Carl (not his real name). He has had multiple spinal fusions, knee replacements, hip surgeries, and general wear and tear on his body. More structural change in his body than most of us can dream of. I will never hear this guy complain. He works with me on a regular basis, he is consistent with his movement homework, he worksout to his ability daily, and is always wanting to take his movement to the next level. Although it isn't realistic for Carl to have a body of a 20 year old again, it IS realistic for him to be able to walk around the block pain free, and to be able to pick up his grandkids. Carl is mostly pain free now, he knows his limitations and he still has movement goals that we are working on, though without his attitude of forward Momentum (;)), he may have never gotten to this point.

Don't dwell in your limitations, work on them, work through them, be patient with your body. And of course if you don't know where to start, I would love to get you assessed and to help you start your Momentum to better movement today!
